WHAT IS INDIAN MUSIC ?
An absurd question; What is Indian music?, absurd because, how do you define something that is x- dimensional, ethereal yet tangible, ancient yet up to date, complicated yet oh so simple , rather strange yet strangely tugs at your heart strings, I could go on. The closest I can come to answering is that, it is a delicate, shimmering web that holds India and the Indian diaspora together, without which we would crumble into the sea. The web is massive, it is omnipresent, from the 'vedic raagas, 'bhakti sangeet','khayal','thumri','ghazal', 'Indian folk music', 'filmy music' from 'bollywood', 'tollywood', 'kollywood', and all the other '-woods', 'bhangra', 'pop','new-age' the list is endless. With legend performers like K.L.Saigal,Geeta Dutt,Mohd Rafi,Mukesh,Lata Mangeshkar,Asha Bhosale,Kishore Kumar, Jagjeet singh, Nusrat, Yesudas, etc etc. My humble advise; don't fret over details, and questions, just enjoy the slice of Indian Music, you have today, there will be another one tomorrow. Regards, 'skinnysim'.

BEGINNINGS
Indian music has developed through a very complex interactions between different peoples of different races and cultures over several thousand years. In a musical tradition in which improvisation is often used, and written notation, if used, is rare, the music of past generations is irrevocably lost. This website is dedicated to exploring the evolution if Indian music. We intend to keep this site light hearted, for example when exploring the classical raagas we will keep them simple and not go too deep in details. Where possible listen to the raagas as used in contemporary music. This we will do while paying respect to the raaga's classical form. We are aware that the scope of Indian music is like a vast ocean, and we will never be able to fathom it, but we plan to try. If you would like to see something specific on this site, please contact us, and we will send our crack team of music sniffing dogs after it. If you have any hidden gems of Indian misic, gathering dust in your closet, please share them with the world here. We are updating this site 24/7/365, so please bookmark us and come back often

BIRD SONGS
Music in India goes back to before written or recorded history, it is as old as the origin of human language. This video clip from the BBC, explains that better.
